Professor David Cullen

Bio

Professor Cullen is currently Adjunct Professor at Macquarie University’s Centre for the Health Economy.

He has been commissioned by the Australian Government, and other governments, to lead several major reviews of the aged care, disability and health care sectors.

His knowledge of Australia’s health, aged care and disability support systems and his expertise in public policy and health economics has developed over 25 years in the Australian Public Service including as:

  • Chief Economist, National Disability Insurance Scheme (2016 – 2022)
  •  Chief Economist, Australian Department of Health (2014 – 2016)
  • Principal Adviser to the Royal Commission on Aged Care Quality and Safety (2018 – 2021)
  •  Head, Aged Care Policy, Australian Department of Health (2000 – 2016)

David is also a past President of the OECD’s Expert Group on the Economics of Prevention.
